In its February session, the Primorye Legislative Assembly supported the initiative of its colleagues from the Committee for Economic Policy and Property and expanded the Development of Education in Primorye state project for years 2013-2017 with creation of a general purpose career school of shipbuilding at the Far Eastern Shipbuilding College.

The Far Eastern Shipbuilding College is one of the oldest educational institutions of Primorye that has trained over 9,000 workers during its history of more than half a century. But the college’s training facility and curricula are outdated. The Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex being built in Bolshoi Kamen by Far Eastern Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Center will need workers familiar with new technologies including employees able to read drawings and acquainted with the elements of programming. Such workers are planned to be educated in the upgraded educational institution.Far Eastern Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Center plans on creating a training center to prepare the next level personnel at the Far Eastern Shipbuilding College. The one that will have a modern training facility, comfortable dormitory, sports facility, and a reliable security system. FESRC proposes the government to jointly upgrade the educational institution. FESRC will invest two rubles for each ruble received from the territorial budget. There are plans for construction of a new building packed with cutting edge equipment, the one that will be similar to the equipment to be used in the Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex’s workshops.

“Establishment of a training center is a new approach to prepare staff for modern industry”, Viktor Gorchakov, Legislative Assembly Chairperson, said. “Now a deficit of shipbuilding and ship repair professionals emerged in Primorye. There is an option to bring specialists from abroad but there cannot be many of them. Primorye needs its own workers. Good secondary and postsecondary vocational education is required. That’s why the deputies voiced support for creation of a training center in Bolshoi Kamen.”The parliamentarians will put the appeal on expanding the Development of Education in Primorye state project for years 2013-2017 with the Creation of a General Purpose Career School of Shipbuilding at the Far Eastern Shipbuilding College activity on the table of Vladimir Miklushevsky, Primorye Governor, in coming days.
